Charitable legacies
Charitable legacies are a key source of funding for charities; one that’s worth protecting and defending. The intended wishes of the deceased may be clear in the Will, but the family and beneficiaries may not see it as you do. Disputes may arise which can be costly for charities both in time and resource.
If a dispute is inevitable you will want it resolved quickly and with the necessary sensitivity to avoid damaging your charity’s reputation. Our Inheritance and Trust Disputes team have extensive experience of dealing with probate disputes and defending charitable legacy requests.
Our approach is to avoid Court action through careful negotiation with Executors wherever possible. If litigation proves the only alternative, we will make a robust defence to maximise the value of the legacy.
Our specialists will also deal with questions over validity of Wills, claims under the Inheritance Act, tracing and recovering assets, ex-gratia payments and any related Trust and estoppel claims. Our aim is to minimise the disruption and burden of legacy disputes so that you can be assured that the legacy intended for your charity is secured.
