Multiple Group winner Sixties Icon owned by Susan Roy, the wife of BHA Chairman Paul Roy, has been sold to stand at Stud commencing in the 2009 Covering Season.
Sixties Icon will finish his flat turf racing career at the end of December to stand at a highly competitive figure of £6,000 (1st October, Special Live Foal). The five-year-old Classic winner will be standing at Norman Court Stud at West Tytherley, on the Hampshire/Wiltshire border near Salisbury.
Mrs Roy’s representatives said that she was thrilled to have owned such a wonderful horse and has retained several breeding rights. Until then the horse will continue to race in the now familiar mauve colours of Susan Roy on behalf of both herself and the new owners Norman Court Stud before taking up Stud duties at the end of the year. The horse is likely to be seen next at Santa Anita for the Breeders’ Cup before possibly going to the Japan Cup or The Hong Kong Vase.
Andrew Chalk of Withy King’s specialist Racing & Bloodstock team acted for the buyer, Patrick Trant, owner of Norman Court Stud and managing director of south coast construction group Trant. Withy King Solicitors acted on the sale and purchase agreement, as well as working out the details of the racing "lease back" which has enabled the horse to continue racing under the joint names of its present and past owners.
Mr Trant said: “Sixties Icon is a lovely looking horse with an exceptional pedigree. His came from the Derby-winning sire Galileo out of the Oaks-winning mare Love Divine.
“We will be standing Sixties Icon at £6,000, a sum that provides breeders with fantastic value for money.”
