Richard is one of three partners in the Racing and Bloodstock team and specialises in dispute resolution and sports regulatory work. He has considerable experience of sports disciplinary and licensing work particularly in horseracing, acting in high profile cases, including race-fixing and corruption enquiries.
His litigation work encompasses contract disputes, professional negligence, personal and equine injury claims, and employment disputes. Such cases have involved high value bloodstock, but Richard's practice extends beyond strictly bloodstock matters and he deals with a wide spectrum of commercial cases and personal injury claims.
Richard qualified as a solicitor in 1994 and in 1999 established niche bloodstock practice, Chalk Smith Brooks, along with Andrew Chalk and Mary Leslie-Smith.
Richard is also Head of Withy King's Motorcycle Law Unit.
Richard works out the firm's Oxford and Marlborough offices.
