Simon heads the Clinical Negligence team, which specialises in claims for patients injured during the course of their medical or dental care.
Simon has particular expertise in birth injury and cerebral palsy cases, being described by the 2011 edition of the independent legal directory Chambers as “well regarded for his handling of cerebral palsy cases” and by the 2010 edition of The Legal 500 as a “cerebral palsy expert”. Simon also deals with “wrongful birth” cases, recovering damages of £3 million in such a case in 2010.
Simon also heads Withy King’s Dental Unit, and has dealt with a high number of dental negligence cases, concluding some excellent settlements for clients.
Simon also deals with cancer cases, fatal accidents claims, claims concerning consent to treatment, and nerve damage cases, as well as many other types of claim.
Simon completed a Masters degree in Medical Law and Ethics in 2010, graduating with Distinction, and is a member of two specialist panels, the Law Society’s Clinical Negligence Panel, and the Referral Panel of Action against Medical Accidents (AvMA). He is also accredited as a Senior Litigator with APIL. He has had articles published in Clinical Risk, Medical Litigation, Healthcare Risk Report, the Solicitors Journal and the New Law Journal.
He qualified as a lawyer in 1992, becoming a Partner at Withy King in 2000.
