Tony Spiers

Partner

Throughout his career Tony has practised in the private client arena, specialising for the last 15 years in the affairs of the elderly, the mentally incapable and the Court of Protection.

He brings to this sensitive work his many years experience as a pragmatic solicitor, seeking out and advising upon the best legal solution for each client's individual case. As this may be set within the context of unhappy family discord, in appropriate cases, Tony will assist with a careful consideration of the wider consequences of any proposed action.

He has acted for executors, administrators and trustees in all manner of family matters, both contentious and non-contentious as well as in deputyships. These include contested wills, altering and “breaking” trusts for tax planning and other purposes, disputed administration of estates and deputyships, tax planning, family provision claims and making Court applications in respect of trusts, statutory wills and gifts.

Tony was the Founder Chairman of the West of England Branch of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) in 1993 and is a member of the Association of Contentious Trust and Probate Specialists (ACTAPS): these are the leading specialist professional bodies in these areas of law.

In 2005 Tony was appointed MBE for his services to the legal profession and the community in the West of England.
