He specialises in Children and Finances arising out of relationship breakdown. He has a particular interest in child protection work representing children and parents as well as other parties in care proceedings and has extensive advocacy experience in Magistrates, County and higher courts.

 

Richard has been involved in a number of reported cases, most recently the case of Re: A (Joint Residence: Parental Responsibility) [2008] 2 FLR 1593, CA. In this leading case on shared residence and parental responsibility he acted for the non biological father whom the court deemed should have parental responsibility in spite the fact that he was not the child’s natural father.

 

He is a member of the Law Society’s Children Panel and is often appointed by the court to represent children in both public and private law proceedings.

 

Richard also has a particular interest in cases involving mental health issues and is also often appointed by the Official Solicitor to represent parties lacking capacity in court proceedings.

 

Amongst other interests he is the current Chairman of Bath MIND and a long serving member of the local Racial Equality Council.
